Smoke alarms/detectors for hearing impaired 520 low pitch for hard of hearing --- Loudenlow - 520 Hertz Smoke Alarm for hard of hearing people (HOH) with high frequency hearing loss. (Hear it online with your computer ) Low frequency smoke detector. Normal alarms can't be heard by many seniors. Sometimes spelled low pitch smoke detecter
The Darrow Company - Offering low frequency devices since 2002.
Typical smoke alarms are too high pitched to be effective for waking many populations. They are around 3,000Hz. Our smoke detectors generate 520 Hz, 250 Hz, and 135 Hz respectively. "Independent studies evaluated the performance of six different signals for waking up hard of hearing people from deep sleep and found the 520 Hz square wave to be the most effective of all the signals." See article.
DOCTOR-RECOMMENDED SMOKE DETECTORS FOR SENIORS, HEARING AID WEARERS AND PEOPLE WITH MODERATE HEARING LOSS. OVER-THE-COUNTER SMOKE ALARMS SHOWN INADEQUATE IN STUDY AFTER STUDY. The Darrow Company -- Precision is Paramount
Still the first, best, and only low frequency devices in the World.
Audiologists emphasize it's not enough to be able to hear a smoke alarm, you must be awakened by it. Be sure to have someone test your smoke detectors at a distance to ensure the sound can wake you. The Loudenlow Low Frequency smoke detectors have been shown significantly more effective at waking individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss.
~ Simple wall mount, no house wiring.

"The alarm works great. My son is HOH and in his first apartment
at college and the alarm really sets my mind at ease. He tends to
sleep with covers over his head so I had reservations about the strobe lights.
Thanks so much for making this available."

NEW PRODUCT ADDED: The Loudenlow Model 520™. The most recent studies have called for a
smoke alarm frequency of 520 Hz designed especially for hard of hearing people. Our newest model, the 520,
provides the recommended frequency. It is higher pitched than our Loudenlow Original. The studies show
that 520 is the superior frequency. We still offer the Loudenlow Original (near Middle C) because most prefer
its lower sound.
See the Model 520 here.
Attention researchers and students: If you are interested in a Loudenlow to use in a sleep study, hearing study, or other research project please don't hesitate to let us know. We are happy to provide you with Loudenlows (as available) to utilize.
A late but sincere: CONGRATULATIONS! To Deanna Payson, 2008 Massachusetts State Fair 1st place winner. Deanna used a Loudenlow as part of her acoustics study and claimed first place. Judges were so impressed with her work she was awarded a full, four year scholarship to UMASS. Deanna, we are delighted to have played a very small role in your excellent work and we congratulate you! (To anyone interested, Ms. Payson has given us permission to re-publish her findings online. Ms. Payson had approached us from afar and was a consummate professional. We are really glad for you, Deanna.) ***
